Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation reach out to Tygerberg Association for Street People (TASP) during COVID-19 Pandemic

Tygerberg Association for Street People

Hollywoodbets “Brighter Future” project with Lighthouse Foundation provides food items to Tygerberg Association for Street People

Under normal circumstances many people around South Africa rely on NPOs and NGOs for food parcels as well as to cover some of their other essential needs. TASP is one of these organisations. Traditionally they support people who live on the street as well as offering them rehabilitation programmes. As part of their service to the community TASP also provides life skills training and help to create work opportunities for their beneficiaries in hope of giving them a better future. During these difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, TASP has come into contact with many more people within the area who are in need of their help and support.
The TASP team was grateful to receive R12 500 from Hollywoodbets. Courtesy of this donation they will be able to provide food parcels to 20 families in their community, as well as covering some of their extra household costs like electricity! This has come about because of Hollywoodbets My Community Programme’s recent decision to collaborate with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation and pledge R1 million to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa. This is a relief initiative that was created specifically to help aid those that have been severely affected by the COVOD-19 pandemic.
This is the third time that Hollywoodbets has assisted TASP because of the meaningful work that the organisation does for those who need it most. “The TASP office is located right next door to our Bellville branch, so we see their staff working with so many needy people in our community on a daily basis. They are doing a fantastic job at the moment! We know that thanks to their intervention families who aren’t receiving an income, or don’t even have a place to sleep, are having their immediate needs met,” said Evander De Wee, Western Cape Retail Regional Manager for Hollywoodbets.
TASP Administrator, Deborah Derby, is thankful for the additional support that Hollywoodbets has provided.
“These funds will allow us to continue assisting people during this time. We have noticed that even more people are going hungry and we want to make sure that we can do everything we can to help the people of our community,” she explained.
