About Us

Our Journey

Hollywoodbets has been investing in the lives of South Africans since 2012, through the My Community Programme. Having significantly increased our Corporate Social Investment over the years, having our very own non-profit organisation was the next step.

In 2021, the Hollywood Foundation was established, with the goal to play an even bigger role in the communities within which we operate. We are on a mission to bring Hope and to work with as many people as possible to make a sustainable impact.

2022 was a massive year for our Hollywood Foundation. We made remarkable strides in fostering unity, driving passion, and nurturing the well-being of our communities. As we reflect on these efforts and the profound impact they have made, we are committed to empowering our communities even more. Together, we have created an everlasting Purple imprint that will transform lives for years to come.

Educational growth and development form an integral part of the Hollywood Foundation as we continue to invest in the youth of South Africa. We continued our Back to School campaign in 2022, where we injected R4 million across 287 local schools, with over 51 700 beneficiaries. This campaign provides support to parents and children at the start of the new academic year.

Over R12.7 million was also invested in bursary funding with The Future is Bright project, which included partnerships with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation and well-known radio stations. This gave 308 students a life-changing opportunity to fund their tertiary education and realize their dreams.

Developing grassroots sports teams is another key focus area for the Foundation. Our support extends further across multiple sporting codes, including soccer, cricket, rugby and netball. In 2022, the Foundation supported 176 developing sports teams around the country and donations included sporting kits, equipment and more.

As title sponsor for the Hollywoodbets Durban July, we were presented with a fantastic opportunity to offer our young designers R100 000 funding, towards bursaries at the annual Young Designer Award. We also invested R250 000 In the Durban Fashion Fair’s Rising Stars, assisting start-up fashion businesses. We were also proud to contribute R50 000 to the South African Riding for the Disabled Association.

A highlight of the year was the inaugural Bambelela Business Awards held in Mpumalanga, where we pledged R750 000 to boost small businesses in the province. It was great to recognize and invest in these businesses that are critical in job creation.

Our #BarrowsOfPower initiative to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day ensured that many communities across South Africa were now able to collect and store clean water. The R1 million campaign assisted 820 beneficiaries and complemented our existing sustainable development goals, focusing on access to water and sanitation.

A total of 1065 charitable organisations received donations in 2022 which ranged across old age homes, children’s home, schools and many more. On top of that, we furthered our support towards the growth and development of small local business within South Africa. We created a brighter future for 118 SMMEs by helping them reach their career goals through various means such as financial contributions and investments in equipment.

Our efforts have touched the lives of 485 054 recipients over the past year.

Thank you to our dedicated Purple Family of 6 227 Team Members, our partners and communities, for all the support this year. Your commitment, passion, and enthusiasm have been the driving force In making a positive impact on many lives.

Our local communities face challenges daily. We need to stand united, show compassion, kindness and how powerful giving HOPE can be!

As we move forward, a quote from Archbishop Desmond Tutu, “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
