The Hollywood Foundation’s Back to School campaign is well underway, and it has already proven to have made a remarkable impact on the lives of many learners and parents across the country. A fantastic advantage of the campaign is that it allows many Partners, Influencers and Brand Ambassadors an opportunity to give back to schools that have touched their hearts. In the Western Cape, the Hollywood Foundation Team was proud to accompany South African actor Andile Nebulane, as he made a special journey to four different schools in the region and offered a motivational talk to learners, as well as equipping them with basic school supplies to tackle the year ahead.
On 02 February 2023, Andile and the Purple Team embarked on a roadshow in Paarl, and visited four schools, namely, Hillcrest Primary, Bergendal Primary, Langabuya Primary and Daal Josaphat Primary. Many of the learners that attend these schools come from disadvantaged communities, and their parents found it difficult to purchase basic school supplies that learners are expected to bring on the first day of school. Langabuya Primary, one of the four schools that the Team visited, is a very special school for Andile, as he recalled his childhood days at the same institution. The school opened its doors to learners in 1962, and although the teachers have worked hard to ensure that the learners receive a quality education, there are many struggles that they have to face during classroom activities.
These challenges include a shortage of space and furniture for learners to conduct their work. Andile said that he was touched by the school when he came to his hometown, and he was motivated to make a difference to the worsening conditions that he regularly witnessed. Together, Andile and the Purple Team were proud to contribute stationery supplies and shoes to the four schools, for the learners to use this year. The supplies, such as books, pencils, glue sticks and scissors, alongside the shoes, will hopefully motivate the learners to overcome many obstacles that they may face, and excel in their studies and work towards a better future. Andile further thanked the Hollywood Foundation for partnering with him for the Back to School campaign, and said, “The most important thing that we can do is encourage and revive that element that says that education is still important.”
