The Hollywood Foundation Team in KwaZulu-Natal spread the message of Ubuntu on Mandela Day this year at Enduduzweni Community Care Centre and Vulamehlo Hospice in KwaDukuza. These organisations have served as beacons of light to the community by offering vital services to improve livelihoods.

Enduduzweni Community Care Centre opened its doors in 1996, and its staff offers psychosocial support to children and adults, in the form of nutritiously-prepared meals, food parcels, clothing, academic support, as well as educational and developmental programmes and skills support for orphans and vulnerable children. The organisation also provides support to individuals and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as individuals impacted by natural disasters or adverse circumstances. Vulamehlo Hospice opened its doors in 2008, and the organisation provides hospice services to terminally-ill patients in the iLembe District. Both organisations have the best interests of the community at heart, despite many hardships and obstacles. As part of empowering communities, the Team of Purple Hearts gathered together and paid a special visit to the organisations, alongside the BET Software Team and Hollywood Foundation Brand Ambassador, Keshav Maharaj. In addition to contributing much-needed items, the Team worked hand-in-hand to ensure that the children and the elderly have a fun-filled day through various activities, such as face painting, preparing warm meals, assisting with making beds and painting the premises. Mondli Ngema, the Project Manager for Enduduzweni Community Care Centre, gladly welcomed the assistance from the Hollywood Foundation, and said that the items will make a significant difference on the day-to-day operations at the organisation. A Ngobese, the Clinical Manager at Vulamehlo Hospice, added that the contribution from the Hollywood Foundation will also help to “improve the standard of our palliative care, to better offer support and counseling services to our patients in a safe and clean environment”.
