Many young South Africans are forced to live in challenging circumstances on a daily basis because of the high youth unemployment rate as well as the problem of inadequate skills development. Limpopo-based Organisation-Hands-On (OHO) strives to help the youth face these challenges by advocating for youth development. However, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic they have had their hands full helping people meet their basic daily needs. The country’s largest bookmaker decided to get behind the good work OHO is doing and donated 23 food parcels, to the value of R12 500, that will provide meals to poverty-stricken households in the Modimolle area.
This significant donation came about courtesy of a collaboration between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation where R1 million was committed to provide relief to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine South African provinces that have been affected by the pandemic.
OHO offers a variety of youth development programmes to those in their community including material aimed at helping develop their schooling. They also provide general support to the community when needed. Hollywoodbets has shown their support to OHO in the past so they are well aware of the good work the organisation does.
The company also currently has 11 branches across the Limpopo province so working with OHO again provided them with a great opportunity to assist this community.
“This organisation identifies community members that have been affected by poverty. OHO has had a significant effect on the community of Modimolle by helping to create much needed change, thereby leading the most vulnerable to a better future. Hollywoodbets recognises these great efforts and we are happy to continue supporting them,” said Khanyisa Mkhari, Limpopo Area Manager for Hollywoodbets.
CEO of OHO, Lesetja Makgetha, is thankful that they were able to assist even more vulnerable families during this difficult time courtesy of this donation.

“These funds allow us to impact families that have been affected by COVID-19. We are able to offer them food parcels which will put many minds at ease as many community members are left without an income,” he said.
