The 2021 academic year had the promise of a bright future and to try make things a bit easier, Hollywoodbets created R350 000 bursary fund towards the development of tertiary education in the country. Ten students received a share of the funding to go towards their university fees for the year.

Edric Saayman, from Brackenfell, received a bursary of R66 124 towards his first year of studying a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production. “When I first heard about this campaign, I felt my results were good enough to qualify but I was still surprised to be selected. This will be a massive help for me as I wouldn’t have been able to study without this bursary. I really hope to get into radio broadcasting and hopefully pass down my knowledge to the youth of tomorrow,” he said.

Another bursary was awarded to Phindile Gabela, in order  to complete her Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences. “I was a little shocked to find out that I received this bursary as my fees were very expensive. I found out that I was winner when I was in the car with my mom and sister and we all couldn’t believe it! My career goal is to empower myself as a black woman in the shipping and logistics industry, and to make a name for myself,” she explained.

“It is heart-warming to see how we have played a role in the career paths of these learners. We hope that in the future we can continue to create a brighter future for even more of our upcoming leaders by investing in their education. 2020 was a difficult year for many, therefore, we look forward to continue making an impact in our local communities in 2021,” said Sandisiwe Bhengu, Operations Executive of Hollywoodbets.
