Hollywoodbets “Brighter Future” project with Lighthouse Foundation donates R25 000 to Ethembeni Children’s Haven

Since 2005, Ethembeni Children’s Haven have been taking in orphaned children in the community of Emalahleni. Their vision is to provide care and shelter to these children in a safe and loving environment. Non-profit organisations, such as this one, have continued to operate in time of the national lockdown. It is important for them that they still receive funding during this pandemic in order for them to operate and take care of vulnerable children. In saying this, well-known bookmaker, Hollywoodbets, made a R25 000 donation to the centre which will be used to provide meals to 90 children in their care.
The “Brighter Future” project is a joint initiative between Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation. A R1 million pledge was put forward as a relief response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These funds will be used to help 60 NPOs and NGOs, that have been impacted by the pandemic, across all nine provinces in South Africa.
The beneficiaries of this donation are aged between seven and eighteen years. The donation will ensure that they receive daily meals from the centre.
Founder of Ethembeni Children’s Haven, Jeremiah Zulu, thanked Hollywoodbets for their generous donation.

“From everyone at the centre, we would like to thank Hollywoodbets for this support. It has allowed us to buy groceries for the organisation and it will ensure that our beneficiaries continue to receive a daily meal and not go to sleep on an empty stomach,” he said.

It was important for the company to assist this centre because of the impact that this pandemic has had. “When speaking to the organisation, we learnt that as a result of the national lockdown, they have had to take in more children under their care and supervision. When hearing this, we acted quickly to ensure that the centre had sufficient food to be able to provide meals to all their beneficiaries,” explained Ntandokazi Khumalo, Area Manager for Hollywoodbets Mpumalanga.
