The benefits of sport and remaining active has proven to have a remarkable impact on the growth and development of the youth and upcoming athletes. Sports development is a key focus area for the Team at the Hollywood Foundation, as well as contributing towards grassroots development clubs throughout the country. In the Western Cape, the Purple Team was proud to venture to a soccer club to present them with a soccer sponsorship and instill values of unity and team work amongst the players.
Lemosa Football Club is based in Delft South, Cape Town, and the club was formed in 2022, with the aim of promoting soccer amongst the youth from within the community. There are many social issues that are prevalent within this community, such as crime, and the club was also established with the intention of creating a social platform to keep the youth busy and engaged in physical activities. There are three teams at the soccer club, and 48 players in total who practice from Monday to Thursday. The players range between the ages of 12, 14 and 16, and there are junior structures in place to nurture young talent. One of the club’s proudest moments was when their netball club became the first club in the Cape Flat’s history to compete with top schools in South Africa.
The club reached out to the Hollywood Foundation for assistance and support and given the Purple Team’s commitment to uplifting the community, it was a natural decision to make a meaningful contribution to the club. On 28 February 2023, the Team from Maitland was humbled to present the club with new kits, which comprised of jerseys, shorts and socks. This soccer sponsorship will hopefully lead to more players joining the club and boost morale amongst the current players. A representative from Lemosa Football Club thanked the Hollywood Foundation for the support and said that the new kits will allow the players to identify each other on the field.
