The Hollywood Foundation continues to support sports development at grassroot level. Over the years, the Purple Team has extended its footprint through rugby sponsorships across the country. In the Western Cape, the players at Broodkraal Rugby Club were overjoyed to receive the news of a rugby sponsorship grant from the Hollywood Foundation.
Established in 1998, the Broodkraal Rugby Club consists of 46 players divided in five teams including the Junior Vikings. The club was formed with the aim to uplift the community and to keep the youth busy and off the streets. The players are from ages 18 to 40 and they practice every second night at the Broodkraal Sportsground.
Broodkraal Rugby Club, like many other clubs, has faced some challenges including being looked down upon by other clubs due to lack of essential equipment and for the players. To help with their needs, on 3 November 2022, the Hollywood Foundation contributed a grant to help the club with their needs as part of a rugby sponsorship.
Despite the club not having enough resources, they have managed to produce players who have now moved to play for another league. Arrie Galant, a representative of Broodkraal Rugby Club, said that they are grateful for the grant contribution as they have been struggling to get support as most of their players are farm workers.
