The Hollywood Foundation is an organisation that understands the importance of sports clubs in upskilling and nurturing young talent. It also recognises that these clubs need assistance with various needs, including kits, equipment, and financial contributions, to be able to continue their valuable work. On 9 May 2023, the Purple Team lent a helping hand to the Wonderfull 11 Cricket Club based in King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape, South Africa through a cricket sponsorship.
The Wonderful 11 Cricket Club was formed in 1953 with the primary goal of upskilling the youth in the area. The club provides an opportunity for young people to play competitive cricket and helps to prevent them from turning to negative behaviours and living a life on the harsh streets. The formation of this club was inspired by the love and passion for the game of cricket, with the ultimate goal of growing the brand and turning it into a cricket hub that will inspire the stars of tomorrow. The club hopes to win leagues and providing players with opportunities to play in provincial teams in different age groups, with the ultimate goal of representing the country.
The cricket sponsorship provided by the Purple Team included playing equipment such as cricket pads, cricket gloves, cricket bats, boxes, scorebooks, and thigh combos. This sponsorship will help to boost team morale and confidence, especially when they are playing against other teams. It will also help to grow and build the confidence of the young Black players who are the beneficiaries of this contribution, according to Yamkela Nyamfu, the General Secretary of the Wonderful 11 Cricket Club.
He said that through sports, the youth can learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. “It also provides a safe space for them to develop their talents and stay away from negative behaviours that could harm them and the community. He said, “The Hollywood Foundation have demonstrated their commitment to making a difference in the lives of young people through their support for the Wonderful 11 Cricket Club. This kind of support is essential in creating a positive and productive future for young people and communities alike,” he added.
