Continuing with their pledge to assist an array of grassroots development clubs, the Hollywood Foundation visited Oklahoma Street Primary School in Cape Town, in an effort to make a positive impact on the girls’ netball team through a netball sponsorship. Many of the girls that form part of the team thoroughly enjoy the sport, and have found a sense of belonging. As such, it was an honour for the Purple Team to assist the school, to ensure that present and future netball stars have a fantastic opportunity to shine.

Oklahoma Street Primary School opened its doors to eager learners in 1979, and apart from ensuring that the learners have a good quality education, the school also offers various sporting codes for the learners to join. Currently, there are 60 players within the netball teams, with seven teams in total. Junior structures have also been put into place for the younger players, in order to grow and develop their skills. The players enjoy their practice sessions, which take place twice a week, at the school’s grounds. One of the team’s proudest moments was winning the Top School event, which placed them first in their league. A few girls have also gone on to play in the Western Province league. The Hollywood Foundation Team has a special place in its heart for sports development, and many of its campaigns aim to ensure that not only boys, but girls have an opportunity to compete at their highest level. The school reached out to the Purple Team for support, and on 1 March 2023, the Team from Somerset was proud to contribute a netball sponsorship to the school, which comprised of new netball kits for the girls. Odette Manuel-Plaatjies, a Sports Coordinator for Oklahoma Street Primary School, thanked the Hollywood Foundation for the assistance, and said, “The majority of our parents are underprivileged, and this will help because sports attire is expensive. This contribution will help to support and give learners an opportunity to equip themselves through sport.”
