In January 2023, the Hollywood Foundation was proud to assist Saartjie Voorskool Sentrum, through a meaningful CSI initiative, and to help to ensure that this non-profit organisation reaches more lives in the future. The Purple Team has already impacted many organisations across the country, by ensuring that they continue to offer vital services to their communities. Seeing as community upliftment is a core focus for the Hollywood Foundation, it was a natural decision for the Team to support this organisation and their mission of bettering the lives of children.
Saartjie Voorskool Sentrum, based in Oudtshoorn, was founded by Sarie Suman in 1996. This non-profit organisation focusses on the wellbeing of children, and it began with only six children in care. Sarie has a passion for children and used money from her own pockets to ensure that she offers the best possible services for children. Today, the organisation consists of seven buildings, hardworking and proactive staff and a learner count of 125. The organisation has a goal to ensure that children have a safe and healthy environment and a learning programme that contributes towards equal opportunities. The educators at the organisation are fully-trained and have implemented a programme that caters to the needs of every child, including those who live with disabilities. Previously, there were many challenges to overcome, such as a lack of equipment to assist with day-to-day activities. On 31 January 2023, the Team from Voortrekker paid a special visit to the organisation, to support them for the first time. Through a CSI handover, the Team gladly contributed some equipment, such as a fridge, a freezer and a microwave.
Sarie, who is now the Principal of Saartjie Voorskool Sentrum, extended her gratitude to the Purple Team for reaching out to assist the organisation, and added that the contribution will now help to ensure that food products can be stored for the Pre-School.
