The Hollywood Foundation’s Back to School campaign has already impacted many schools across our country. The aim of the campaign is to add some hope to schools that are educating our future stars, as well as reducing the stress and hardships of many parents that find it difficult to ensure that their children are fully equipped with staple requirements for the new academic year. The HUTS Team was proud to travel to a school in Kranskop on 26 January 2022, which will have a long-lasting impact on them as they witnessed first-hand the hardships that many learners have to face to get that piece of paper that will give them a chance at having a bright future.
Emakhabeleni Primary School was established in 1952 and it also offers learners a feeding scheme and physical education. The teachers have been very vocal about some of the challenges that they have to endure, such as educating pupils who come from poor households and teaching learners who usually walk long distances to and from the school. School assemblies are also held under a tree which cannot provide cover for all the children in the blazing sun. Nkanyiso Zondi, the Principal of Emakhabeleni Primary School, has often had to take money out of his own pocket to ensure that the children get the best possible shot at a bright future.
The Marketing Team identified this school as one that required immediate assistance. Through the Back to School campaign, the Team was proud to bring some joy to these learners by contributing reams of papers and calculators to assist the learners during classroom activities this year.
Nkanyiso, the Principal of Emakhabeleni Primary School, was beyond grateful to receive this small but meaningful contribution to kickstart the new schooling year. He added that the contribution will now boost the learner’s confidence to attend school, which may also reduce absenteeism. He also said that all children should be afforded the opportunity to get a quality education to be successful.
