Based in Gauteng, Michael Zulu Primary has become a place of safety for many pupils since 1998. The school was excited and happy to learn the news that they will be receiving support from the Hollywood Foundation’s Back to School campaign this year. Teachers work tirelessly to ensure that the learners at the school are given the necessary life skills and abilities to become independent individuals in the future. The school also offers learners counselling services, sporting activities, nutritional skills and IT lessons, as part of extra-mural activities.
Previously, learners at the school would attend lessons without wearing proper school shoes. This is likely to have had an adverse effect on their self-confidence and self-esteem, as they found themselves to be different than the other children. On 26 January 2022, the Team from Brakpan paid a small visit to the school to hand over brand-new school shoes for the learners.
MC Makuwa, a Teacher at Michael Zulu Primary, explained that learners will now be able to feel confident and motivated as they all look the same, and added that the goal for the school is for each and every learner to own a full school uniform one day.
