Hollywoodbets “Brighter Future” project with Lighthouse Foundation provides food items to Lusa Community Chest
Lusa Community Chest is based in Sasolburg and is a non-profit and public benefit organisation. Their main goal is to improve the lives of those living in their community. They achieve this through leading, supporting and participating in inclusive community efforts that build capacity and mobilise resources to help create long-term social change. Currently they mostly focus on enterprise and socio-economic development. Lusa staff members were excited to receive a R12 500 donation from leading bookmaker, Hollywoodbets. These funds were used to create 31 food parcels that were distributed among the most vulnerable community members during this time.
This well-deserved donation came shortly after the company’s announcement that their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme would be collaborating with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation to hand over R1 million to charitable organisations as a relief response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These funds will be distributed to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine South African provinces.
This will be the second donation that the company has made to show their support to the organisation.
“Over the past few years, we have noticed the great change being brought about because of the positive effect that this organisation is having on the community of Sasolburg. We understand that many of their beneficiaries may be going through a difficult time during our national lockdown and this is why decided to get step in and help them where we can,” explained Skele Ntlatseng, Free State Area Manager for Hollywoodbets.
Lusa Community Chest Project Manager, Jabulani Zwane, believes that the support has enabled them to carry on doing their community work. “These funds turned into food parcels have allowed us to help those who may not be receiving an income as a result of this pandemic. We are very grateful to Hollywoodbets for their continuous support as this was their second donation that they have made to us,” he said.
