Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project provides essential support for Hannah’s Place of Safety

This trying time has caused massive disruption in the running and fundraising processes of many non-profit organisations across South Africa. Hannah’s Place of Safety is one of those NPOs because they rely heavily on the support of their community to see them through each day. This incredible organisation looks after vulnerable babies who are placed in their care by a court of law. In the past, Hollywoodbets has shown their support for Hannah’s Place of Safety as part of their My Community Programme, and they felt that it was a great idea to do so again as part of their COVID-19 relief efforts.
Hollywoodbets donated R12 500 to this organisation. These funds will be used to purchase baby clothes and food, as well as covering electricity bills for the home, and doctors’ bills for all eight babies that are currently under their care. This support comes after the announcement that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hollywoodbets would be injecting a grand total of R1 million into the good work being done by various organisations the company has a relationship with. 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa will benefit from this initiative that came about courtesy of a collaboration between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation.
Hollywoodbets chose to support Hannah’s Place of Safety for a second time because they believe that the organisation is making a massive impact on their community. “The work that the organisation does is absolutely heart-warming. Not only do they provide 24-hour care to these babies, which also includes covering their medical expenses, but they also help to find foster care for the babies whenever possible. On our previous visit we were able to spend time with some of these babies and see the work that this organisation does first-hand. Obviously that wasn’t possible this time around because of the social distancing protocols, but we know that the staff members care for each of these little ones as if they were their own. Therefore, we knew it was the right decision to support them because every baby that comes into the home is cared for with so much love,” explained Tania van Eck, Western Cape Regional Manager for Hollywoodbets.
Janine Fabe, Director of the organisation, is thankful towards Hollywoodbets for believing in the work they do. “We rely on the public for most of our support and sometimes we also receive help from corporates. This is a particularly difficult financial time for most people and we understand that. So we are grateful that we can continue to see to the needs of our babies and our staff thanks to this helpful donation from Hollywoodbets,” she said.
