A Class Act for Hollywoodbets

KZN, South Africa – Community-focused betting operator, Hollywoodbets, has aided in the completion of five additional classrooms at Khiphinkunzi Primary School in the township of KwaDukuduku, North of KwaZulu-Natal.

After Nontuthuko “Nontu” Mgabhi (32) made headlines for pledging to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven consecutive days to raise funds for Khiphinkunzi Primary School’s classroom expansion project, Hollywoodbets immediately reached out to partner with this cause. This initiative was important to the company in order to address overcrowded classrooms.

Close to half a million rand was contributed towards building the additional classrooms which was officially handed over to the school on Friday, 19 February 2020. A further R50 000 worth of school uniforms were also donated as part of Hollywoodbets’ “Back to School” programme.

The relationship with Hollywoodbets is one that Nontu truly values as it has allowed her to help better the lives of children in the area. “This day is so special to me because, with the support of Hollywoodbets, I’ve been able to see through the project to its completion. Even with all the challenges I have faced whilst raising the funds – I can finally see my dream for these children,” she said. Nontu has run marathons in Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Asia, Europe, South America and North America.

The principal of Khiphinkunzi Primary school said she was incredibly happy about the completion of this project and looks forward to the benefit of having additional classrooms. “Thanks to Hollywoodbets, we will be able to split the learners into more classrooms and avoid overcrowding, especially now during the pandemic. I’m so happy that social distancing can also be practiced more effectively with the additional five classrooms, and the kids will be able to learn in a much more conducive space,” she said.

Morgan Shandu, National Retail Operations Manager at Hollywoodbets said, “We are honoured to be a part of such an important cause. At Hollywoodbets, we strongly support the growth and educational development of our youth and, therefore, the building of these classrooms closely aligns with our values. The determination and work that has been done by Nontu is incredible, and we are grateful that we get to stand alongside her. Many of our schools face overcrowding in their classrooms, so it is heart-warming to know that these learners will now have an environment enabling a better future.”

Hollywoodbets believes in investing in the communities in which they operate with their “My Community Programme.”  They have actively been empowering communities and providing support, especially in marginalised places, to further grow the reach and impact of positive action within South Africa.
