Which institution are you from, and what are you currently studying?
“I am from AFDA Durban Institute, and I am studying Television Production.”
Why did you choose this particular field of study?
“When I was a young girl and I watched a lot of television with my mom, I would always be interested in what was happening behind the camera. I wanted to know who was behind it, what they do, and I was really interested in that. When I was doing my Matric year, I found out more about the field, and I immediately knew I wanted to do it.”
What year of study are you currently enrolled in?
“I am in my third year.”
How did you hear about the Bursary Programme?
“It was a normal day on social media. I follow Nomzamo Mbatha, so I was going through the feed and I came across the post about the bursary programme. I was doing my Matric year at the time, I think I had just matriculated. I saw the post and I immediately applied.”
Can you briefly tell us how the Bursary Programme has made a difference in your life?
“It has made a huge difference. I say this because, my mom is the only person working at home, so it helped to relieve the load off her shoulders. At first, I didn’t know how I was going to study. As soon as I saw that I was a beneficiary, I knew it will help a lot. Not only did they pay for my first year, but they paid for my entire tuition.”
Why would you recommend the Bursary Programme to other students?
“I would recommend it to other students because it is a really good opportunity. Not only is it helping you to study towards the career you want, but it is a great opportunity to get to know other spaces in the working industry.”
Is there anything else that you would like to say to the Hollywood Foundation?
“A very, very big thank you. I am beyond grateful, grateful is actually an understatement. It really helped me a lot especially because during COVID-19, many people lost their jobs and my mother was one of those people. If I had her as the person paying for my fees, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am really grateful to the Hollywood Foundation, and what they have done for me, my family and for my future.”
