The Coronavirus pandemic has affected many relief organisations in South Africa, including Masibambisane Home Based Care and Development Centre in the Eastern Cape. Established in 2010, Masibambisane runs a soup kitchen to feed the destitute, maintains a crèche to provide aftercare services to children in the community and offers home-based care to look after the elderly. The centre has experienced a loss in funding due to the current situation many locals find themselves in, and they’re struggling to address the severe need in their community. Well-known national bookmaker Hollywoodbets reached out to the centre, donating R25 000 to help them during these dire circumstances.
The donation forms part of the newly-launched collaboration between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation whereby R1 million will be handed over to 60 NPOs and NGOs around the country and forms part of the company’s COVID-19 relief plan.
Hollywoodbets chose to support this organisation for the fourth time because they truly believe in the work being done here. “It has been an honour to support Masibambisane during this trying time. The work that the centre does to provide for people who are facing both issues of health and unemployment in the community is remarkable. We can only hope that our assistance will provide some relief in their efforts to sustain their centre through this current pandemic,” said Mfundo Macingwane, Hollywoodbets Regional Manager for the Eastern Cape.
Director of Masibambisane, Zanele Mbanjwa, thanks Hollywoodbets for their continued support.

“This donation will go a long way in helping us support our beneficiaries who are unemployed so don’t know where their next meal will come from. Thanks to these funds we were able to provide food to 180 beneficiaries! It’s also important to make sure that those in our care receive healthy meals because many of them are living with HIV,” she said.
