Hollywoodbets, through the Hollywood Foundation, proudly continues its support of the South African Jockey Academy (SAJA), by contributing to the renovation of their facilities and awarding bursaries to deserving apprentices. The Foundation’s involvement was highlighted at a prize-giving ceremony at the academy in Summerveld, KwaZulu-Natal, on 6 December 2024.
The Hollywood Foundation completed a significant renovation project this year, with Phase 1 improving the male dormitories, including partitioning to optimise space, fresh paint, new bathrooms, and renovated kitchenette and wash facilities. Phase 2 focused on the multi-purpose sports turf, further campus painting, and the complete renewal of the dining hall and surrounding areas. Additionally, the entrance and security house received refurbishments.
The Hollywood Foundation also awarded bursaries nine promising apprentices at the academy, enabling them to further their education and careers as professional jockeys. This support follows the success of previous bursary recipients, including among others, Malesela (Keratile) Katjedi and Siphesihle Hlengwa, both of whom recently qualified as jockeys.
