Durban, KwaZulu-Natal: The Hollywood Foundation’s Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) department proudly concluded the official handover event for the Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) Rising Stars. The ceremony celebrated nine emerging designers whose work was inspired by the Hollywoodbets Durban July theme, ‘Ride the Wave.’
The highlight of the event was the distribution of R250 000 in essential equipment and business support to the following talented designers:
- Nompulelo Mjado
- Nomalungelo Mkhize
- Mzwandile Mathonsi
- Silondile Makhanya
- Nokuzola Ndlovu
- Siphesihle Khoza
- Njabulo Ngubeni
- Sduduzo Nkwanya
- Zamaswazi Mathole
This support is part of the Hollywood Foundation’s ongoing commitment to empowering emerging talent and promoting local entrepreneurship within the fashion industry. The foundation’s ESD initiative aims to provide invaluable resources to designers, helping them to elevate their businesses and contribute to the growth of the local economy.
During the event, Cllr Priscilla Ndlovu, Deputy Chairperson of the Economic Development and Planning Committee – eThekwini Municipality, delivered an inspiring keynote address. She highlighted the crucial role of local support in nurturing creativity and entrepreneurship, emphasising that initiatives like the Hollywood Foundation’s ESD program are vital for the sustainable development of Durban’s fashion sector.
Vuyisile Ngobese, Public Relations Officer at the Hollywood Foundation, remarked, “We are thrilled to support these outstanding emerging designers who embody innovation and excellence. Our goal is to provide them with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed and make a significant impact in the fashion industry. This initiative reflects our dedication to nurturing local talent and fostering economic growth in Durban.”
