The Hollywood Foundation is currently in the process of empowering future athletes, and encouraging them to reach for the stars through meaningful contributions. The Purple Team is focussed on ensuring that grassroots sports development clubs get the relevant support that they require, so that they are able to have a positive impact on more athletes in the future. In March, the Team in Mpumalanga was proud to identify a local sports club that required a helping hand and assisted them through a soccer sponsorship.
Msuka Liqwa FC is based in Ermelo, and the club opened its doors in 2013. Currently, there are 33 players at the club, who form part of one senior team. The club has not yet implemented junior structures, however, they do provide training and mentoring to young players who choose to join the team. The players are hardworking, determined and disciplined, and they enjoy active practice sessions every day, at AJ Swanepoel Fields. Msuka Liqwa was primarily formed as a social hub, and to give the men within the community a chance to interact and remain fit and active. The club’s proudest moment was winning the Champions League in 2022. Like many other development clubs, there are many challenges to overcome. The club relied on monthly contributions and sponsorships, in order to ensure that their training programmes were functional. The Hollywood Foundation identified this soccer club as one that required support, and due to the Purple Team’s commitment to uplifting communities and investing in sports development, the Team from Ermelo was humbled to visit Msuka Liqwa FC to hand over their share of new sports kits. This formed part of a soccer sponsorship, and has the aim of ensuring that the players feel a sense of pride and unity on the field.
Sandile Mavuso, the Chairman of Msuka Liqwa FC, thanked the Purple Team for their generosity, and said, “This will assist greatly towards the operation of the team, as we struggled with away and home kits.”
