The end of the year may bring lots of joy and excitement to many people, however, some parents are often left stressed as they begin to plan their spending for their children’s school supplies for the new year. New school uniforms, new school shoes and stationery supplies, are considered staple requirements for learners. Through the Back to School campaign, the Hollywood Foundation aims to ensure that many households are stress-free at the start of the year by providing learners from disadvantaged schools with basic school requirements. This year, the campaign has been launched at a significant time, before the festive season, with a purpose to assist parents, teachers and learners, in 2023.

To kick-off the campaign this year, the Hollywood Foundation partnered with Black Coffee Foundation for handovers in three schools in Umlazi. Umlazi is a very special place for the international DJ, record producer, songwriter and businessman, as he hails from that region. Together with the Hollywood Foundation, the team from the Black Coffee Foundation visited Windy Heights Primary School, Qondokuhle Primary School and King Shaka High School to contribute school shoes and uniforms for the learners to wear next year. Black Coffee was proud to embark on the Back to School campaign with the Purple Team, as he visited schools that he grew up in and offered motivational speeches to empower the learners. One of his profound sayings was “It takes a village to raise a child”, as he encouraged learners to listen to their parents and teachers. He further called for the learners to stay true to who they are, and never stop dreaming big, as one day, their dreams could become a reality.
