Based in Joubert Park, St Edna’s Secondary School was grateful to hear the news that the school will be receiving assistance from the Hollywood Foundation’s Back to School campaign this year. The teachers at the school work extremely hard on a daily basis to ensure that the learners are equipped with necessary skills and abilities to become professionals in the future.
Previously, learners at the school lacked self-esteem, as a result of coming from disadvantaged areas in the region. The school also seeks to improve the development of the learners through extra-mural activities, such as chess, soccer and netball. On 12 January 2022, the Team from Newton Mall was happy to pay a special visit to the school to hand over boxes of brand-new school shoes for the learners to use this year. School shoes are considered a staple school requirement, and the Team aimed to take the pressure off parents, who may find it too expensive to purchase them for their children at the start of the new year.
Sandesh Moti, a representative for St Edna’s Secondary School, thanked the Team for bringing some hope to the learners at the school, and added that it will help to bring back some self-confidence for the learners.
