Makhaza Spurs FC was formed in 2001 and it is comprised of five teams and over 75 players. Players practice four times a week at Makhaza Sports Grounds. The club was primarily formed to combat the high crime rate and substance abuse in the region, and it served as a means to keep children off the street and engaged in physical activity. One of the club’s proudest moment was when the team won the A-League for the first time in 2008.
The Hollywood Foundation is extremely passionate about sports development and using sport as a vehicle to empower and uplift needy and vulnerable individuals in the country. On 17 January 2022, the Team from Wynberg was proud to present the club with brand-new soccer kits for players to use when they compete in matches. A representative for Makhaza Spurs FC was overjoyed after receiving the kits, and said, “As a black-owned team with no sponsors, we were struggling a lot with finances and sports equipment. This will now boost the boy’s performance, in and out of the field.”
