Monwood United was established in 1997 and it is made up of three age groups, namely, the under-14, under-19 and the senior team. The club comprises of approximately 45 players who train 4 days a week at Bhongolethu Primary School from Monday to Thursday. The club was formed to develop the youth in the community and keep young kids off the street and away from drugs and a life of crime. The club is a well-run outfit and has high aspirations to make the cup final this season.
On 17 January 2022, the Team from the Philippi Branch was proud to hand over new soccer kits to the football club as part of the Hollywood Foundation’s campaign to empower developing sport teams across the country. Head Coach, Qhamani Soweti, said that they are extremely grateful, and the donation will help them financially because they lack the money and resources to purchase new football kits.
