Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project Provides Essential support for Neighbourhood Old Age Homes (NOAH)
Like many non-profit organisations in South Africa NOAH has been struggling to make ends meet since the outbreak of the coronavirus in March this year. The economic downturn has affected this organisation as many of their beneficiaries have now become completely dependent on funds received through their SASSA grants because of many South Africans being unable to work at present.
NOAH provides care to a high-risk population group, so they required urgent assistance to help these elderly persons receive everything they need to stay well-nourished and safe. Hollywoodbets responded to NOAH’s appeal for assistance as they are situated near the Hollywoodbets Woodstock branch and the company had supported NOAH before as part of their My Community Programme.
R12 500 was donated to NOAH courtesy of the ‘’Brighter Future’’ project. These funds will enable their staff to provide essential food items as well as electricity to the 65 pensioners within their care. This comes after Hollywoodbets’ recent announcement that they will be providing support to the tune of R1 million to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine of South Africa’s provinces as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This incredible relief work is being done through their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and in collaboration with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation.
This is Hollywoodbets’ third donation to NOAH because the company truly believes in the work that the old age homes do. “It is such a privilege to be able to support an organisation like this. Their whole mission is to make sure that pensioners’ basic needs are met. We are so impressed by the neat and clean communal houses, the health care programmes and the way they offer social support to the elderly people living within this community. It is a great honour to be able to help them weather this storm as they look after some of our most vulnerable people during this challenging time,” said Tania van Eck, Western Cape Retail Regional Manager for Hollywoodbets.
NOAH Director, Anne Dobson, is grateful for Hollywoodbets’ continued support. “As many people in the area know, NOAH is focussed on the health and wellbeing of our local pensioners by providing health care, food parcels and electricity vouchers. With respect to this donation from Hollywoodbets, the direct beneficiaries are the 40 residents of the NOAH houses in Ida’s Valley, Athlone, Elsies River and Maitland, as well as 25 distressed households in Khayelitsha whose lives will be made easier thanks to these essential items,” she explained.
“Thank you, Hollywoodbets, for being a blessing to our community when we needed it most. Your company’s good deeds have allowed us to continue looking after these vulnerable people and we are so grateful for this!”
