It was another beautiful day in the Western Cape, as the Hollywood Foundation Team embarked on another meaningful handover, as part of a soccer sponsorship. Throughout last month, the Purple Team has been leaving their imprint on an array of sports development clubs in the country. Grassroots development continues to be a passion for the Team, due to the positive impact that sport has shown to have within communities, and the overall growth of the youth.
Kensington AFC is a football club that is based in Cape Town, and it has been in existence since 1991. There are 10 teams within the club, and 250 players in total. Junior structures have also been put into place, in order to ensure that young talent are given the necessary support to thrive as football stars. Based at 4th Avenue Sports Complex, the players at the club enjoy coming together and engaging in practice sessions, twice a week. The club was formed to ensure that the youth from the community have an opportunity to escape a harsh life of gangsterism and crime-related activities and have a solid chance of living a good quality of life, now and in the future. One of the club’s proudest moment was producing well-known players, such as the likes of Granwald Scott and Craig Martin. Like many other sports development clubs in the country, there are many challenges and obstacles to overcome on a daily basis.
The club reached out for assistance from the Hollywood Foundation, due to the Purple Team’s focus on nurturing upcoming athletes. On 6 March 2023, the Team from Waterkant paid a friendly visit to Kensington AFC, to present them with their new share of sporting kits for the players. This handover formed part of a soccer sponsorship and has the aim of instilling values of team work and unity within the club. Warren Langerman, the Chairman of Kensington AFC, thanked the Hollywood Foundation for their generosity, and said that the contribution will now provide the club with resources to produce more players.
