Universal Rugby Football is based in Bede Street, Kimberley, and it opened its doors in 1886. It is one of the oldest rugby clubs in South Africa and it recently celebrated its 135th anniversary. Currently, the Club has 80 players and it consists of two teams. The players are aged between 18 to 43 years and many of these players have been promoted to provincial and national levels. The players practice three days a week at AR Abass Stadium.
Commitment to community development forms the core of the Club’s ethos. The Club seeks to forge positive social values through rugby and membership is traditionally sourced from economically disadvantaged areas in the city. Hollywoodbets chose to assist this Club further by contributing rugby kits and equipment on 8 September that was valued at R40 000. Romeo Christiaan Syfers, the Chairman of Universal Rugby Football Club, thanked the Purple Team for their generous donation and added that it will be used to improve the skills of the players.
