Operational and financial independence of small enterprises are key elements in the sustainability of the businesses. The Hollywood Foundation, through the Enterprise and Supplier Development(ESD) programme, has extended their support to creatives in Gauteng in the pursuit of empowering local businesses in the Clothing and Textiles Industry.
On 31 January 2023, the Foundation Team gathered with SMMEs at the Constitution Hill Creative Hub, to officially handover the R100 000 contribution to the eight deserving recipients. The monumental event took place in the presence of the dignitaries from the Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct who sighted their appreciation for the investment into the various entities that operate in the quarters.
Through the financial assistance and equipment, the Foundation aims to assist these businesses to sustain the overall functioning of its operations. To ensure sustainability of these small businesses, the Foundation has provided a strong structure for access into the economy through its partnership with the Basha Uhuru Festival which has been a platform that has provided opportunity for trade and networking for SMMEs.
Remoakantse Matseke of Creamo Crafts, a business that specialises in hand-crafted jewellery, said before the injection into her business, they were struggling with funds to purchase packaging and enough raw material to be able to produce pieces, which negatively impacted their sales. She expressed her gratitude to the Hollywood Foundation for enabling them an opportunity for growth as they are now exploring other revenue streams through supplying stores as distribution platforms for their products. Their plan to also hire the youth while also transferring the skills through a skills development programme. “We are mindful of the role that the small businesses play in the growth of the economy and job creation. Our contribution to the Constitution Hill’s Incubation programme and the selected businesses, will ensure the progression of the entities and guarantee sustainable operations,” said Babongile Mkhize, Hollywoodbets’ Group Transformation Manager.
