In the heart of Mpumalanga, the Hollywood Foundation is making waves with its passionate commitment to nurturing young sports talent at the grassroots level. Their innovative CSI initiatives are empowering young people and entire communities. One such community is Msukaligwa Local Municipality, where the Foundation is taking a stand against the scourge of substance abuse that has disproportionately affected the local youth.
The Hollywood Foundation’s CSI initiatives are strategically designed to empower community teams, providing them with the support needed to grow and achieve their goals. In Msukaligwa, the Ward Councillor recognised the urgent need to address substance abuse among young people. In response, a Sports Day was organised, aiming to revive active participation and engagement among the youth. Since 2016, the sports programme has been a beacon of hope, introducing various sporting codes to empower young individuals and steer them away from the clutches of substance abuse.
The most impactful moments in the community of Msukaligwa have come from successfully rehabilitating substance abusers through their sports programme. With 60 players and an estimated 100 beneficiaries, the teams have faced challenges in participating in tournaments due to a lack of proper sports gear. This is where the Hollywood Foundation stepped in, recognising the potential for positive change through sports.
On 14 October 2023, the Hollywood Foundation proudly handed over their sponsored items for the Msukaligwa Local Municipality’s Sports Day. Their generous contribution included brand-new kits for the winning teams in boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, and netball. Medals, trophies, and water were also provided, ensuring that the tournament reached a high calibre, and fostering momentum among the talented young participants. This impactful intervention provided essential resources to create an atmosphere of excitement for the competition, reinforcing the positive values associated with sports.
Samkelo Buthelezi, the Tournament Organiser and Ward Councillor, expressed deep gratitude for the Hollywood Foundation’s CSI contribution.
“Our aim is always to keep young people active and motivated, and we believe that through this sports day, we managed to achieve that. We are grateful to the Hollywood Foundation for their consistent and meaningful contribution towards our sports day,” he remarked.
