Durban, KwaZulu-Natal: The start of the new schooling year can bring much excitement to learners, as they look to new beginnings, learning new things and meeting new friends. For some households, the start of the new schooling year can be a stressful period, as parents are expected to purchase an array of school supplies for their children just after the festive season. Using the Back to School campaign, the Hollywood Foundation has been easing the pressure off parents, and equipping learners with basic school supplies that will hopefully motivate them to do well in their studies during the year ahead.
On Friday, 10 February 2023, the Hollywood Foundation Team paid a special visit to St Kizito Church in KwaNdengezi for a handover, and they succeeded in their mission to spread some much-needed cheer for the day. Learners from six Primary Schools and four High Schools were present, and they were excited to hear the good news that they will be receiving support from the Purple Team this year. These schools included Emangangeni Primary School, Nkosenye Intermediate School, Botate Primary School, Umthala Primary School, Insizwakazi Primary School, Thembalihle Primary School, Ndengetho High School, Ntee High School, Ndengezi High School, and Kwasanti Secondary School. Many of these learners, both boys and girls, are based in predominantly disadvantaged areas and their parents found it difficult to purchase school items for them, including shoes.
The festivities during the handover included a beautiful song item from the St Kizito Choir, as well as motivational speeches from representatives of both Foundation’s to encourage the learners to excel in their school work. KZN MEC for Social Development Mrs. Nonhlanhla Khoza was also proud to attend this heart-warming event, and she delivered a keynote message. Through the Back to School campaign, and in partnership with St Kizito Youth Foundation, the Hollywood Foundation was proud to contribute 460 pairs of shoes for the learners to wear this year.
“I am overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the Hollywood Foundation and the Church for taking such a profound step in investing in the education of our underprivileged children. As you will know, education is a priority for the KwaZulu-Natal government and it is heart-warming to see the private sector joining forces with us in this shared mission. These uniforms that are being handed over today represent hope, opportunities and a brighter future for our young learners,” said KZN MEC for Social Development, Mrs. Nonhlanhla Khoza.
“The Back to School campaign is one that we are very passionate about at the Hollywood Foundation. Giving back to our communities and contributing essential school items to our children, fills us with pride. We are honoured to partner with St Kizito Youth Foundation today, to hand over shoes that will surely assist learners in their academic journey this year”, said Vuyisile Ngobese, Public Relations Officer for the Hollywood Foundation.
