#HopeIsPower – New Generation Youth Organisation

Hollywood bets donates R85 000 to the New Generation Youth Organisation

This KwaMashu-based organisation focuses on youth and social issues, such as drug abuse, unemployment and prostitution and not letting young people lose hope. The Hollywoodbets Team handed over a R85 000 cheque, through the #HopeIsPower campaign, to the organisation as it strives to support clean-up and rebuilding efforts that would help the local community that was damaged during the civil unrest that happened in July.

Jacinta Ngobese, Chairperson and Founder of the organisation, said, “Our organisation had started a social cohesion project which was launched in 2016. It highlighted the importance of sports, art and entertainment, music and social cohesion in Phoenix, KwaMashu, Inanda and Ntuzuma.” She said the civil unrest highlighted why this programme was so important and how the organisation was affected by what was happening.

“The donation was going to help a lot of people who come to clean as they need water and something to eat when they clean.”

Jacinta said the organisation was grateful for the R85 000 donation. She said as the looting was about to end, they gathered some youth and started cleaning up areas that had been looted as they wanted to fast track the recovery process. The donation would help homes that were struggling even before the lockdown last year.
