This Durban-based NPO is a performing arts company who has a passionate about the well-being of local artists. They offer the relevant skills and knowledge to their students in order for them to improve their various performances. The result of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many NPOs having to stop their normal operations. Ikabawo is one of these organisations, but they have chosen to get involved in their community in a different way. Thanks to a R12 500 donation from leading bookmaker Hollywoodbets, they were able to provide food parcels to 27 families from the Emawoti and Elindelani communities in KwaMashu.
This donation came soon after the company’s recent announcement that their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme will be collaborating with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation to handover R1 million across 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine South African provinces. This is a relief plan that was put forward to lessen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sabelo Ngema, Managing Director of the organisation, is excited for the future of the organisation in lending a helping hand to vulnerable community members.

“This donation will bring about growth for our organisation. We are now able to expand into other communities, such as Emawoti and Elindelani, and offer our assistance and not only in the form or preforming arts but also in the area of food security,” he explained.

Hollywoodbets has a heavy presence in the community of KwaMashu and therefore this is a fitting donation for the company to get involved with.
“Many of our customers and team members reside in KwaMashu. Hollywoodbets believes in giving back to the communities that give us so much. We were more than happy to lend a helping hand to Ikabawo and we are relieved to know that 27 families will have food to sustain them for the next couple of days,” said Xola Ntshiza, Northern KwaZulu-Natal Area Manager for Hollywoodbets.
