Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation reach out to Môrester Child and Youth Care Centre during COVID-19 Pandemic

Môrester Child and Youth Care Centre

Môrester Child and Youth Care Centre provide meals to 134 children thanks to Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project

This well-known centre was established in 1981 and has been operating out of Ladysmith ever since. The centre offers residential care to children in need. Their main aim is to give the children in their care a place to stay and to help them work towards securing a better future. It is important that during the national lockdown period these vulnerable children are still given the care and attention that they need. The centre was therefore happy to receive a R12 500 donation from leading South African bookmaker, Hollywoodbets. These funds were used to provide daily meals to the 134 children who are currently in their care.
The “Brighter Future” project was developed as a relief plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It came into being when the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme collaborated with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation to donate R1 million to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa. This was put in place to try lessen the impact of the crisis on the most vulnerable South Africans during this time.
This is the second act of kindness that Hollywoodbets has shown to the centre as they offered their assistance to them back in 2016 as well.
“Hollywoodbets has a branch in Ladysmith and therefore we are always looking for ways to support organisations in the community. The result of the COVID-19 pandemic is that these organisations are truly in need of help now more than ever. Môrester is doing a wonderful job for the most vulnerable in our community and they are well-deserving of donation because this means that they can continue to feed the community in dire-need,” explained Mondli Mzimela, Hollywoodbets CSI Champion for KZN.
Lizette van Niekerk, Director of the Centre, is excited to have received this donation as it will allow them to continue operating.

“The contribution from Hollywoodbets will allow us to purchase food in order to prepare meals for all of the children that we currently house. Our children range in age from newborn to 21, and therefore many of them are very vulnerable. We are glad that we will be able to continue providing daily meals to them,” she said.
