11 talented young individuals celebrated the successful completion of the second intake of The Hub Internship Programme, a Level 5 Services SETA-accredited initiative. The programme run by Shimuzic Foundation and powered by Hollywood Foundation, ran for four months and provided participants with hands-on experience, mentorship from seasoned professionals, workshops, and community engagement projects. It was designed to equip students with the essential skills required for success in the fields of event management, design, and entrepreneurship.
Launched in October 2024, the internship programme aimed to up-skill young individuals from the community of Thembisa and give them the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world settings. Through a combination of on-the-job training, skill-building workshops, and engagement in large-scale events, these graduates have gained the practical knowledge and confidence needed to pursue successful careers in their respective fields.
“We are incredibly proud of the progress our graduates have made throughout this programme,” said Ashley ‘Shimza’ Raphala, Founder of Shimuzic Foundation. “This internship is about more than just education—it’s about fostering real-world experience, mentorship, and creating pathways to long-term success. These 11 students have demonstrated exceptional creativity and dedication, and we’re excited to see where their careers take them.” The 11 graduates of this year’s programme include Tumisho Markalla, Mduduzi Zwane, Kamogelo Aphane, Lunga Magagula, Kamogelo Fophe, Karabo Malete, Thato Malebati, Kamogelo Mojela, Masego Mokoena, Tshegofasto Lebogang and Dimpho Makuane, who will now join The Hub alumni network.
As part of this network, they will continue to work alongside Shimuzic Foundation and its partner businesses, contributing to various events and projects while further honing their skills in the process.
“The Hollywood Foundation is proud to have played a key role in empowering these young individuals,” said Babongile Mkhize, Hollywood Group Transformation Manager. “Through our partnership with The Hub Internship Programme, we’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact that hands-on learning and mentorship can have on these students’ careers. We are excited to continue supporting them as they transition into the workforce and build bright futures for themselves and their communities.”
The graduation ceremony, held on 9 April, in Sandton, marked a special occasion for the graduates, their families, and supporters. It was an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and hard work over the past four months. For more information about the Hub, you can visit: https://justexists.com/the-hub-applications/
