Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project Provides 61 essential food parcels for Tlangelani Community Project
Tlangelani Community Project aims to uplift their community by specifically focussing on developing the youth in the Bungeni Village near Louis Trichardt. They offer various programmes with the support of the local SAPS, safety workers and child and youth care workers. Thalngelani also provides meals to children in need on a daily basis. As a result of COVID-19 pandemic, it has been difficult for the organisation to reach out to their beneficiaries when it comes to food supply. National Bookmaker Hollywoodbets stepped in, handing over R25 000 in order to provide food parcels to 61 families in need.
This came about courtesy of a collaboration between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation where R1 million will be given to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tlangelani offers three main programmes to the local community. The Safepark Programme is a centre that offers after-school care and playtime under the supervision of child care workers. The Youth Empowerment Programme takes place every Friday to discuss challenges that the community may be facing. The Support Programme is aimed at guardians and parents who may find it difficult to care for the children under their supervision.
Tintswalo Muhlanga, Manager of Tlangelani Community Project, is thankful for this help from Hollywoodbets as it will allow them to continue caring for their community.
“These food parcels have allowed us to reach our goal of feeding our beneficiaries during this lockdown period. We are happy to be showing our support and kindness to those who are feeling the pain of poverty over this trying time,” he said.
According to Yvonne Hlaisi, Limpopo CSI Champion for Hollywoodbets, supporting this organisation was an easy decision to make because of the massive positive impact that they have on their village. “Right now many people are unable to receive an income, meaning they can’t provide for their families and put food on the table. We received a request for a donation from Tlangelani and we were happy to show our support to them for the second time. It is heart-warming to know that families will truly be helped to meet their basic needs during this tough time,” she explained.
