Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation reach out to Thurallo Community Development during COVID-19 Pandemic

Tharullo Community Development

Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project support Tharullo Community Development with meals for 30 families

Since 2009 Tharullo Community Development has been creating various projects to assist those less fortunate in their community. They assist orphaned and vulnerable children between six and 18 years of age by helping them with their homework and providing them with after-school lessons. South Africa’s leading bookmaker, Hollywoodbets, chose to recognise the good work of the organisation by supporting them with a monetary donation of R12 500. These funds were used to purchase food parcels for 30 households in the community of Tshamahansi near Mokopane.
This donation came about after the recent announcement that the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme will be joining forces with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation to hand over R1 million in funding to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine South African provinces to assist them in their COVID-19 relief response.
Normally Tharullo Community Development runs gardening and baking projects which allows them to provide the community with fresh produce as well as fresh bread. Currently the children are unable to come to their centre so the staff wanted to put together some food parcels that those in need could use at home. That’s where Hollywoodbets came in!
According to Yvonne Hlaisi, Limpopo CSI Champion for Hollywoodbets they were happy to help this organisation that continues to make such long-lasting change in the area. “This will be our third donation to Tharullo Community Development. We have noticed the outstanding work that they have done in helping the less fortunate. During this uneasy time, they are finding it difficult to find the funding that is needed to continue with their initiatives. Hollywoodbets was more than happy to show their support yet again so that they can continue on with their community development,” said Hlaisi.
Project Manager for Tharullo Community Development, Elizabeth Nkosi, is appreciative to Hollywoodbets’ help as they will now be able to resume with their community relief work.

“We are excited to distribute these much-needed food parcels to our beneficiaries who are currently in distress because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of them are left without an income and rely on us for their food supply,” she explained.
