Caring for the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children is what the Thabang Drop-in Centre in Limpopo does best. To support their sterling work, the Hollywood Foundation contributed with a gas stove, generator and two white boards as part of its various CSI projects.

The Thabang Drop-in Centre was established in 2010 in Smash Block. The centre provides daily cooked meals, academic support with homework daily and twice monthly on Saturdays plus extra-mural activities such as painting and sporting activities and working in the vegetable garden for the children. It also looks after children within the community by conducting home visits to the orphaned and vulnerable households to monitor their living conditions and provide monthly food parcels.

Before this CSI contribution from the Hollywood Foundation, they were using wood fire to cook for the children daily. The Purple Team visited the centre this October to give them the support they need after seeing their struggle especially since they don’t have electricity.

Glory Vilakazi, the Centre Manager at Thabang Drop-in Centre, said that the gas stove will make their lives so much easier as they were struggling with wood daily. She said that the organisation was established after witnessing the high rate of poverty, and the number of affected and infected people in the community.  She said their goal is to empower the children they service, their families and to restore their dignity and independence.
