Hollywoodbets and the Lighthouse Foundation pledge R1 million towards “The Future is Bright” bursaries.

Leading South African bookmaker, Hollywoodbets, and the Lighthouse Foundation, founded by starlet Nomzamo Mbatha, continue to expand their support towards the tertiary education sector by making a massive investment of a further R1 million in bursaries available for 2021. This initiative forms part of “The Future is Bright” campaign in hopes of creating a better future for our youth of South Africa. Applications open on 21 December 2020 and close on 11 January 2021.

“What a dream come true to live a life of service and stand for something greater than self. This partnership with Hollywoodbets has solidified our stance of leaving this generation better than we found it. They are not just ‘sayer’s but put action behind their words and heed the call from the highest national order that companies have a responsibility to society at large and Hollywoodbets is way ahead of its industry counterparts in this regard. We are fortunate to build a bridge to MORE of South Africa’s youth to pursue their education dreams whilst easing the financial burden. My Lighthouse Foundation continues to be thankful and of service to this world and it’s communities at large.”

This brings the dynamic duo’s educational investment to a massive R1.5 million. On top of this they also contributed R1.35 million towards bringing relief to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hollywoodbets also donated a brand new seven-seater car to aid the Lighthouse Foundation in delivering essential supplies to vulnerable South Africans across the country.

“At the beginning of 2020, Hollywoodbets came together with the Lighthouse Foundation to handover R500 000 in bursaries to students across the country. We are therefore extremely excited to now make R1 million available to the youth of South Africa for 2021 through our partnership! Recent statistics showed the high unemployment rate of our South African youth, with a significant number of them being graduates. We therefore pride ourselves on the fact that we can offer employment opportunities to our bursars! Ubuntu is one of our primary focuses as a company, which also closely aligns with the values of Miss Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation. The Foundation is doing fantastic work for our communities and we are grateful to be able to partner them along their journey of creating light for many vulnerable people,” said Sandisiwe Bhengu, Operations Executive of Hollywoodbets.

These bursaries are open to any students in need of assistance, from settling registration and unpaid fees, to accommodation for the year. The organisations are passionate about giving back to their communities and they look forward to collaborating on many more future projects.

Hollywoodbets is an active role player in the communities within which they operate. In 2019/20 they supported 306 charitable organisations, 250 development sports teams and 24 SMMEs through their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme.

The bursary will be for the registration and tuition fees only. Applications are open between 21 December 2020 and 11 January 2021.
