Elderly citizens are the backbone of society. They have lots of knowledge and experience to pass on to the next generation, and quite often, they are overlooked and are not given adequate care and support. Through various CSI projects, the Hollywood Foundation aims to shine a spotlight on non-profit organisations that are prioritising the wellbeing of elderly and vulnerable members in communities across South Africa.
Makwarela Society for the Aged was established in 2005 and is based in Thohoyandou in Limpopo. The organisation focusses on the elderly and helps to restore their dignity. The staff at this organisation work hard to ensure that the elderly are upskilled and engage in activities that keep them occupied during the day. On 28 September 2022, the Team from Thohoyandou visited the organisation to contribute sewing machines, cloths and needles, for the elderly to use, as part of a CSI project by the Purple Team.
N Mudau, the Manager of Makwarela Society for the Aged, was grateful for the support from the Hollywood Foundation, and said that the items will allow the elderly to start learning to sew and sell clothes to make an income.
