The inaugural KZN Youth Business Awards took place on Saturday, 20 November 2021, at the Southern Sun Maharani Hotel in Durban. The glittering event was hosted by the KZN Youth Business company, sponsored by Hollywoodbets and supported by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs.
The purpose of the awards was to celebrate youth excellence and honour young individuals in our beautiful province who have broken down barriers and endured sleepless nights to make their dream of building and owning their own business a reality. Over the past few months, KZN-based youth-owned businesses were afforded an opportunity to enter the competition under various categories, namely, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Entertainment, Sport, Media, Hospitality, Technology, Township Business, Informal Business, Social Entrepreneurship and Food Product. A total of 33 nominees were selected as entrants of the KZN Youth Business Awards by the KZN Youth Business Awards Jury, which included Babongile Mkhize, the Group Transformation Manager at Hollywoodbets. The judges then went through the process of identifying the final 11 winners for each of the 11 categories.
The excited winners were announced at the awards ceremony, which included guests such as the honourable Ravi Pillay, the MEC for Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs, and the founder of the KZN Youth Business Awards, Siyanda Calvin Ntenga.
