Vaal Ahanang Foundation provide 30 food parcels to community courtesy of Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project
The Vaal Ahanang Foundation was established in 2017 and aims to tackle the many social ills that most of their community youth fall prey to. Their main objection is to inspire action for positive change and to uplift the communities. During the current national pandemic, it is crucial that organisations, such as this one, continue to support their communities because many community members rely on them for guidance and help. This was made possible for the foundation thanks to a R12 500 donation from well-known bookmaker Hollywoodbets. These funds were used to purchase 30 food parcels for the beneficiaries of Vaal Ahanang.
Hollywoodbets’ support forms part of the company’s “Brighter Future” project a relief plan they created specifically in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project will see a total of R1 million going to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa and is a collaboration between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation.
Hollywoodbets felt it was the right move to support Vaal Ahanang because the foundation’s values align perfectly with the company’s.
“We chose to offer our assistance to this organisation because of the upliftment that they provide to their community. One of their programmes is a feeding scheme where children in the community receive a plate of food at their aftercare before returning home. We need to ensure that these children still receive the meals that they rely on, and therefore we felt that this donation was incredibly important,” explained Lorraine Tshabalala, Gauteng Area Manager for Hollywoodbets.
Caroline Theletsane, Treasurer of the Foundation, is grateful to be helping the community at a time like this.
“This COVID-19 pandemic that we are currently facing has resulted in many more people looking for a source of food. The generous donation from Hollywoodbets has allowed us to provide this important service to our beneficiaries and their families and ensured that they have meals for the next few days,” she said.
