Evaton-based NPO, Thy Kingdom Care Centre, is a drop-in centre that provides social and health care services to orphans and vulnerable children across the Sedibeng District. They offer various programmes which seek to better the lives of their children. One of these programmes is a feeding scheme, which is why the centre was pleased to receive a R12 500 donation from leading bookmaker Hollywoodbets. These funds were used to purchase food items as a contribution to the organisation’s feeding scheme where they currently supply meals for 375 children.
This donation was made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation. A R1 million pledge was made to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa. The project is labelled “Brighter Future” and was put in place as a relief plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The centre was established in 2000 and, what started out as a dumping site, transformed into a community centre and orphanage to accommodate children who have lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS.
It is important that the centre continues to provide meals to their children during this difficult time.

“The donation from Hollywoodbets will be used to provide our orphaned and vulnerable children from the community with daily meals. The contribution has allowed us to sustain our nutritional support programme that we offer at the centre. Our hearts are now warmed to know that our beneficiaries will not go to sleep on an empty stomach,” explained Thandi Khanyile, Director of Thy Kingdom Care Centre.

According to Lorraine Tshabalala, Gauteng Area Manager for Hollywoodbets, this was a very important endeavour for the company to be involved with. “It is crucial that NPOS such as this one continue to receive the necessary funding and support they need during this difficult time of the national lockdown. Providing meals for these children that depend on them is an incredibly important job. This is Hollywoodbets’ second donation to the centre and we are pleased to continue showing our support,” she said.
