The acquisition of skills and business management are key elements in the sustainability of the Fashion Industry. The Hollywood Foundation, through its Bursary programme, has extended its support to young designers in South Africa in the pursuit of empowering creatives in the Clothing and Textiles Industry with the relevant financial muscle to complete their fashion qualifications.
On Friday, 24 March 2023, representatives from Hollywoodbets, Gold Circle and the Hollywood Foundation gathered with Young Designers and Fashion Design Colleges at the Hollywoodbets Durban July (HDJ) 2023 Theme Reveal ceremony. The monumental event took place at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, in the presence of key role players in the build-up to Africa’s much-anticipated event.
The Theme Reveal event is the official announcement to creatives that sets the tone for the horse racing, lifestyle and fashion element of the HDJ festivities. The Theme, which was derived from a Poem, was recited by Mr Ken Twedell, who took the guests through a journey of the galaxy and stargates, leaving a clear picture of the expectations of the garment presentations from designers.
Steve Marshall, the Marketing and Event’s Executive from Gold Circle, shared how this year’s event will uplift the Fashion Designers and how the support provided will enable the winners of the Young Designer Awards an opportunity to showcase at the South African Fashion Week (SA Fashion Week).
The highlight of the reveal programme was summed up on a high note with Hollywood Foundation’s Public Relations Officer, Ms Vuyisile Ngobese announcing their contribution of R100 000 worth of bursaries to the winners. Vuyisile said, “This contribution is our support to the recovery and sustainability of the clothing and textiles industry.”
