Small businesses are often comprised of hardworking staff, who require support for their operations to grow and flourish. At the Hollywood Foundation, the ESD programme prioritises SMMEs across South Africa, by identifying and helping business owners through meaningful contributions. These contributions can be in the form of monetary assistance or vital equipment. With this in mind, it was a joy for the Purple Team to travel to Umgeni in Durban, to make the dreams of a businesswoman come true.
Esenzweni Co-operative is a clothing and textile business. Owned by Nomathemba Khubone, the business has had their fair share of struggles, including a lack of space and infrastructure to operate within, as well as second-hand equipment proved to be problematic. The business has big goals for the future, including to grow and supply products to big corporates. On 12 December 2022, the ESD Team visited the business, to contribute a shipping container and a sewing machine.
