We were thrilled to hand over a brand new vehicle to Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation on Thursday 28 October.
On Thursday, 28 October 2020, the Lighthouse Foundation, founded by starlet Nomzamo Mbatha, became proud owners of a brand new seven-seater car, thanks to a generous donation made by leading South African bookmaker, Hollywoodbets. This handover will greatly aid the Foundation when reaching out to assist more vulnerable citizens. Mbatha flew to Durban to be a part of this wonderful event that was held at Hollywoodbets Head Office in Umhlanga.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, countless South Africans have relied on assistance from non-profit organisations like the Lighthouse Foundation. Thus, the Foundation has been distributing much-needed food parcels to the community members of Soweto (Gauteng) and KwaMashu (KwaZulu-Natal) as part of their relief efforts. A huge challenge that they faced was not having a vehicle big enough to transport all of their handover items. This is where Hollywoodbets stepped in to assist.
“I would like to thank Hollywoodbets for being an organisation who is so passionate about their communities and for believing in the work that we do.”

“Wow, what a beautiful day! As a foundation we rely heavily on the support from organisations, such as Hollywoodbets. This amazing vehicle is going to have a massive impact on the Lighthouse Foundation, simply because we don’t have to rely on having to pay for transportation costs. This car will allow us to expand our reach and visit shelters, homes, hospitals and so much more across South Africa. We aim to answer the needs of the vulnerable by supplying them with whatever items can assist them. This vehicle is a symbol to others, to encourage them to do their part. This is therefore our Lighthouse Foundation’s biggest asset.”
“I would like to thank Hollywoodbets for being an organisation who is so passionate about their communities and for believing in the work that we do. Our values and beliefs are so closely linked and together we can make a massive impact. We are looking forward to collaborating on future initiatives, especially after today’s announcement that, in 2021, we will be investing a further R1 million into bursaries for the future leaders of our country. My motto is that I want to lead my generation better than I found it, it’s that simple” said Mbatha.
Over the past year, the two organisations have been working together to make a meaningful impact. For the duration of 2020/21, the dynamic duo has made a massive investment of over R1.5 million into funding tertiary education through bursaries. In addition to that, they further pledged R1,35 million towards helping communities who have faced hardships due to the pandemic.
Babongile Mkhize, Transformation Consultant for Hollywoodbets, explained how excited the company was to show their appreciation after receiving a request from Mbatha. “At Hollywoodbets, we believe that this donation will not only assist the Lighthouse Foundation in reaching out to more communities, but it will also help create more brand awareness for the Foundation. Hopefully more and more people will recognise the fantastic work that is being done amongst our communities. Over the past year, we have built a close relationship with the organisation and we look forward to the future opportunities that can be created, especially with the help of the new car that will make some handovers much easier,” she said.
