Phantane Athletics Club receive R 52 000 donation courtesy of Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s “Brighter Future” project.

A total of 150 community members from around Durban benefited from a R52 000 donation made that was made by Hollywoodbets to Phantane Athletics Club. The club is well-known for the work they do mobilising their youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and developing their skills in order for them to become competitive athletes. To continue their developmental community work during the national lockdown, the club got involved in donating food parcels to vulnerable community members from Inanda, Amaoti and Umlazi. Hollywoodbets chose to support their amazing work.
This comes after the company recently announced their “Brighter Future” project which is a collaboration between their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme and Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation. A pledge of R1 million was put forward to support 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine provinces in South Africa to help provide some relief when it comes to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the second act of goodwill that the leading bookmaker has shown to the club. “Phantane is doing a great job in uplifting and developing disadvantaged community members. They normally spend their time mobilising talented young runners from a disadvantaged background, helping to equip them with skills that serve them well into the future. We were excited to hear that the club wanted to continue supporting vulnerable community members as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic by distributing food parcels to those in need. This led to us making a financial donation to the organisation to help them continue their good work,” said Xola Ntshiza, KwaZulu-Natal Area Manager for Hollywoodbets.

“Thanks to this donation from Hollywoodbets, Phantane will now be able to assist the disadvantaged communities that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This lines up with our founding mission. The selected families are made up of households that are unable to bring in any income due to the lockdown regulations. These food parcels will come at a good time as most of them are waiting for assistance from the government through various social relief programmes,” explained Mduduzi Khumalo, Chairperson of Phantane Athletics Club.
