In honour of Youth Month, the Hollywood Foundation and Heart FM joined forces for the 16 Days for Youth campaign, with the objective of making enduring positive changes in the lives of young individuals at the Realistic Child and Youth Care Centre in Athlone, Cape Town.
On June 15, as part of this campaign, the Hollywood Foundation made a significant contribution to the centre by providing a greenhouse. This greenhouse will serve as a nurturing space where young individuals can gain knowledge about sustainable farming practices. The goal is to address food security within the community and promote self-sufficiency and environmental awareness.
Furthermore, the Hollywood Foundation also pledged to support the education of deserving youth at the centre through the Future is Bright bursary programme. This initiative aims to empower young individuals to pursue their educational dreams and become future leaders in their communities.
Heart FM played a crucial role in this collaborative effort, partnering with the Hollywood Foundation to support the Realistic Child and Youth Care Centre. This partnership highlights the power of collective efforts in creating meaningful change. Heart FM’s annual 16 Days for Youth initiative, focused on underserved and underresourced communities, aligns perfectly with this project. This year, their focus was on refurbishing and upgrading the centre to create a safe and loving environment for the children. Heart FM’s commitment to youth-focused projects aims for long-term impact and sustainability.
Jimmy Moribane, Social Worker Supervisor at the Realistic Child and Youth Care Centre,
said that the centre provides residential care for up to 40 male children. Realistic organisation was established in 2004 and has since then provided youth development programmes in different areas across Western Cape.
