The Hollywood Foundation’s Back to School campaign is continuing to make a positive impact on many schools across the country. Launched in November last year, the campaign aims to ensure that vulnerable children are given an opportunity to attend school and are equipped with the basic school supplies that they require. In March 2023, Romy Titus, a popular sportscaster and radio personality, partnered with the Purple Team, to assist a school in Cape Town, and help to ensure that learners are given the necessary supplies to excel in the year ahead.
Erica Primary School is based in Homeria Road, Belhar, and it opened its doors to educate eager learners in 1976. The school is comprised of hardworking and dedicated educators, who work hard to ensure that learners are given the necessary support to go far in life. News that the school will be receiving support from the Hollywood Foundation left many educators and parents feeling appreciative and overwhelmed. Apart from educational lessons, the school also runs programmes that prioritises the needs of the learners, such as a food parcel distribution, and clothing and counselling services. The school has many goals that it hopes to accomplish in the future, such as ensuring that their learners produce good results that will enable them to receive a scholarship to attend a good high school. The school has opened up about the many challenges that parents face when purchasing school supplies for their children. Many parents lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as such, many of their children were in need of school items for the new academic year. On 10 March 2023, the Team paid a visit to the school, to help make the school continue with their mission to empower learners. Using the Back to School campaign, the Team was proud to contribute stationery supplies and uniforms for the children.
Mrs. H Rolls, a representative from Erica Primary School, thanked Romy and the Hollywood Foundation for choosing to assist the school, and said, “As a school, we are deeply appreciative of this initiative.”
